Thanks so much to all of you for the sweet comments yesterday about our bathroom renovation! I hope I didn't come across as sounding too negative... maybe just exhausted : ) But definitely seeing a light at the end of the tunnel!! Especially with the wise, kind words from all of you!

I've spent some time recently updating my House Tour section!
You'll have to check it out and see some new pictures of our house and recent projects, including...
an update to our living room mantle!
Remember how, a few weeks ago, I attempted to change my drab little mantle?
BEFORE
MY FIRST ATTEMPT AT AFTER
It just wasn't sitting right with me. I love the Ikea mirror concept I created, but not for our mantle. Specifically, I didn't like how dark the mirror frames are... lets just say that my attempt to bring black into our living room was not really successful. Buh-bye new black pillows (more on their replacements later!).
So I went back to what I knew I loved (neutral-y) but decided to spice it up a little. After seeing my girl E's adorable layered mantle, I was inspired and decided to do the same with mine. So I layered away.
MY SECOND ATTEMPT AT AFTER
Slightly more traditional, mostly neutral and a fun pop of color. Right up my alley.
I've tried a few variations of items to layer, but after living with each option for awhile,
I think this is my favorite: the antique tin ceiling tile, a floating frame with postcards from
our Thanksgiving trip to the Redwood National Forest and our initial.
Who knew leaning a bunch of stuff up against each other would make all the difference in the world?!
BEFORE
AFTER
Certainly not a wild change, but I'm loving it!

I think it looks really good. I love the look of layering but I'll admit I don't find it super easy to get just right. This turned out really well though.. I like the objects you chose.. they work together perfectly!

ReplyDeleteI have a huge problem decorating my mantles. I think they are just too large and I never get anything that fits right. I love what you did.
ReplyDeleteso weird, but I SWEAR last night before I fell asleep I thought 'wonder what 10june (excpet I called you by your real name in my thoughts) ended up doing with her mirrors on the mantel?'
ReplyDeleteI SWEAR I DID!!! so weird.
