I am so excited to share today's "Genie Series" post. Cassie is not only one of the funniest bloggers I know (lets just say we have the same sense of humor!), she is also one of the most positive, uplifting people I have met in blog land. She has taught me a lot about loving and appreciating life. I'll let you find out more about her for yourself! Take it away, Cassie!
IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY THREE THINGS IN THE WORLD, WITH NO LIMITATIONS-- WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Hello, Ten June readers! I am Cassie from Primitive and Proper. I am so honored to be a guest today at Michelle's awesome blog. The girl has talent, and not to mention she has a real full time job. I am in awe Michelle- I don't know how you do it!!!
I was so excited when Michelle asked me to participate in The Genie Series, because I love to dream! But I have to be honest, I had a really hard time picking 3 things I would want if money were no object. And don't get me wrong, it's not because I want it all, but I am already happy and blessed in my life. See...
Two great kids, a great husband, and a roof over our heads! Now, before I get into my wishes, I want to give a little background.
Let's step back in time to August 25th of 2005. I had just become a first time mother to Sawyer, and was living in Slidell, Louisiana. Enter Katrina. My husband and I evacuated with our newborn baby, and our two dogs, thinking we'd be gone just a couple days. I didn't go back home for 6 weeks. The first reports of Slidell we heard said that 85 percent of homes were damaged. We had no idea if we had a home to go back to. My husband went before me, and we were oh so lucky. The flooding had ended about 1/4 mile from our home. We had minor roof damage, and lost several trees. Friends of mine lost everything, and had to move or rebuild. Jobs were lost. When I finally went back it was still a mess, and to this day is not the same.
I share this story with you, because through this experience, I have lost my grip on "things". Yes, I like to decorate and I am still a consumer, but my most important possessions are not material objects. When we left our home that August, a friend of mine asked how I was holding up and how on earth I was staying so positive. I told her that I had everything that mattered to me in the world. My family was safe. I will never forget that experience, and I think that is what made it hard for me to think of what I would buy. So that being said, I am going to be a little self indulgent for a few moments...
Wish 1: The one thing I know I would looove to have would be a personal health-conscious chef. I want them to make my meals and give me proper portion size, and allow for some wine in there, too. I exercise a lot, but I tend to have a wee bit of a sweet tooth. And I will share a little secret with you... I don't like to cook. So having someone do it for me, and have it be healthy... that would be top notch. I would want meals like this.... I looove seafood and sushi!
Wish 2: My dream is to open my own shop, featuring all locally produced items with an eco-friendly vibe. Think upcycled furniture, re-junk, and organic bath and body items, as well as organic jewelry, housewares. I already have a name picked for it. But I can't tell you that yet. Because I plan to make this wish come true one day.
Michelle's Note: Cassie already has an incredible online business already, so she is one big step in this direction! She creates THE most beautiful furniture. Here's one of my favorite pieces she's done! You just have to go check out more in her shop.
Wish 3: An endless supply of airline tickets!
I love to travel, but the cost of tickets is what holds me back! My husband and I did some travelling pre-kids, and had the most amazing time in Costa Rica.
I actually cried the day we left because I was so sad to leave such a beautiful place! I would also be able to visit my family and friends when I wanted! And I have never been to Europe... Italy, Greece, France.... all a dream to me!
Thank you so much, Michelle, for having me over here today and allowing me to dream a little! Wishes can come true!!! I would love for you to pay a visit to my blog, too! Hope to see you there!
