This weekend, David and I snuck off on a little getaway to celebrate his birthday. We thought it was only appropriate to take a low-key (or, in my words, a "grandpa") trip in honor of the fact that he inched one year closer to the big 3-0. No, but seriously. We took a big time grandpa trip, y'all.
While all of you were out drinking green beer and partying it up for St. Pat's, the preggo and gramps here loaded up early Saturday morning and drove south to Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Hellooooo sunshine and temperatures in the mid 80's. My glowing pale skin didn't even know what to do, it was so excited.
I wasn't sure if all the pretty flowers would be in bloom. Oh boy, were they. I narrowed down the 431 pictures we took throughout to weekend to a measly thirty. Get ready for spring photo overload!
The highlight of all things floral at Callaway (and really anywhere in Georgia) is the azalea.
Oh and we met a few animal friends, as well.
Hellooo, David took that picture. So good, right?
Yes, this means we were bird watching. That happened. I told you, gramps trip alert!
The preggo lady might have gotten a tad emotional at watching this butterfly hatch. Nature at its finest!
My favorite part of the park was the vegetable garden area. There was one spot that kind of looked secret garden-ish to me, which is clearly cool. You step into a fenced off area and find this beautiful backyard setting... I was kind of in heaven.
That little snowball tree is just darling. Trust me, I was taking all kinds of notes for some eventual outdoor space planning. I loved this spot!
Clearly, David and I had a ball wandering through the gardens with all of the senior citizens and loving on all of the gorgeous natural creations. It was just our cup of Ensure tea. And don't get me started on the "vintage" inn we stayed at... the regular Marriott hotel was booked full, so we had the pleasure of setting up camp at the park's motel. With all of the other 70+ year olds. Our room smelled like denture cream and soap, it was awesome.
All kidding aside, we had a ball. It was the perfect weekend to celebrate my amazing hubs and all of the joy that he brings to my life. So one last time... happy birthday, baby!!
